Zakaat is the compulsory giving of a set proportion of one's wealth to charity. It is regarded as a type of worship and of self-purification. Zakaat is the third Pillar of Islam religious duty which cleans impurities from our wealth and ensures excess wealth is distributed among those in need.
Zakaat is obligatory each (lunar) year. The amount of Zakaat due is based on income and the value of all of one's possessions. The amount is 2.5% (or 1/40) of one's possessions. At ACE we have worked with a number of external organisations to facilitate the giving of Zakaat funds to those most in need, below is an outline of just some of these initiatives.
- India Orphanage Appeal
- Syrian Emergency Appeal
- Kenya Poverty Relief Fund
- Tanzania Poverty Relief Fund
- Palestine Water Purification Appeal
- Jerusalem Orphanage Welfare Centre
